Overtext is a Chrome extension that recognizes text in video frames and makes it selectable, so you can highlight it, copy it, or translate it the same way you would on any web page.
Add to Chrome Free to use, no account requiredClick the Overtext button on any video, or press Alt+S to grab the largest one on the page.
Runs locally on our server using Apple's Vision framework, which handles rotated, angled, and stylized text well. Supports 30 recognition languages including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Cyrillic scripts.
Rather than dumping results into a text box, Overtext lays recognized text right on top of the video where it appears. You select and copy it the same way you would on any web page.
Translation is powered by Google Gemini, which sees the whole frame at once and uses surrounding context to produce better results than translating each text fragment independently. Supports 18 target languages.
If you have terms that should always come through verbatim — names, jargon, game vocabulary — you can add them to a glossary. The same list improves both OCR accuracy and translation output.
There's no subscription. Translation uses prepaid credit packs that don't expire.
